Accepting BLIK Pay Later as a merchant

BLIK Pay Later, in Polish BLIK Płacę Później, is the deferred version of BLIK, the Polish mobile payment system run by Polski Standard Płatności. The shopper enters a BLIK code in the checkout, as with an ordinary BLIK payment, and the purchase is collected from the shopper's account on the thirtieth day, at no extra cost when it is paid on time. The limit is set per shopper after a credit check, up to 4,000 złoty. The financing provider can be Polski Standard Płatności; for customers of PKO Bank Polski the lender is PKO BP. For a merchant the subject is the step in price from BLIK to its deferred version, and who decides whether the payment goes through.

How to accept BLIK Pay Later as a merchant

You take BLIK Pay Later through a PSP that carries it. PKO Bank Polski states that the service is offered by the largest settlement agents, and in the index Autopay, dpay (Payments Lab), Nexi and PayPal offer it. Shoppers pay in złoty only, and only shoppers in Poland can use it.

On the Shoper platform it is an option on the BLIK channel of the Przelewy24 gateway: a merchant that already accepts BLIK switches on one setting. The method is an extension of one the merchant already has, and at least one provider prices it separately.

Model

BLIK supplies the code, a lender supplies the 30 days

The shopper chooses BLIK Pay Later as the payment method, enters a BLIK code and, the first time, activates the service in the banking app. BLIK states that the financing provider sets the limit after checking the shopper's creditworthiness in external databases. For customers of Bank Millennium, VeloBank and SGB that provider can be Polski Standard Płatności; customers of PKO Bank Polski take a credit product in which PKO BP is the lender.

BLIK collects the amount from the shopper's account on the thirtieth day after the purchase, with a reminder three days before. The representative example shows an annual percentage rate of 0% and a total cost of 0 złoty when repaid on time; late payment carries interest on the overdue amount, and repayment restores the limit by the amount repaid. None of this runs through your account: PayPal documents that, with the order set to complete on approval, it captures the payment as soon as the buyer approves.

Where BLIK Pay Later works

BLIK Pay Later is a Polish product. BLIK lists it as available to customers of PKO BP, Bank Millennium, Spółdzielcza Grupa Bankowa and VeloBank. PPRO lists Poland as the only consumer country and the złoty as the only currency, and PayPal states that it is not available outside Poland.

BLIK describes the method for online shops: the shopper chooses BLIK Pay Later in the checkout and enters the code. PKO Bank Polski adds that it applies only to products and services offered with deferred payment.

Pricing

BLIK publishes no merchant rate, and two providers print very different ones

BLIK publishes the shopper's terms, not the merchant's price, so the rate comes from your PSP. dpay (Payments Lab) publishes 0.99% with a minimum of 0.20 złoty for BLIK Pay Later. PayPal lists BLIK Pay Later among its alternative payment methods at 5.49% plus a fixed fee, 0.35 euro on its euro-country pages and 1.35 złoty for złoty received on its Polish page.

Take 200,000 euro a year of BLIK Pay Later volume at an average order of 50 euro, so 4,000 orders. At dpay's published rate that costs 1,980 euro. At PayPal's it is 10,980 euro in percentage fees plus 1,400 euro in fixed fees, 12,380 euro in all. The difference is 10,400 euro a year on the same orders.

These are published list prices and the comparison is illustrative; your quoted rate decides what you actually pay. The gap shows that the method has no settled market price: one provider prices it as a variant of BLIK, the other as one of its buy now, pay later methods.

Step

The same code at two prices: what you pay is the step

A shopper who would have paid with BLIK and chooses BLIK Pay Later instead uses the same code and the same banking app. For you the order is the same; only the rate changes. dpay prints both: 0.89% for BLIK and 0.99% for BLIK Pay Later, a step of 0.10 percentage point. Every million euro that moves from BLIK to its deferred version costs 1,000 euro a year more.

At a provider that prices BLIK Pay Later among its buy now, pay later methods, the step runs from your BLIK rate to 5.49% plus a fixed fee. On the same million euro at an average order of 50 euro, 5.49% plus 0.35 euro comes to 61,900 euro a year before the BLIK rate is deducted. Have every provider quote BLIK and BLIK Pay Later side by side, because the step is the price of the method, not the rate on its own.

Credit

A lender you have no contract with decides the payment

BLIK Pay Later fails when the lender has not granted the shopper a limit that covers the purchase. The limit is a total across purchases and only grows back as the shopper repays, so a shopper with a limit of 4,000 złoty and 3,000 złoty outstanding can pay 1,000 złoty. That decision sits with the financing provider, not with your PSP and not with you.

Fix two points in writing with your PSP. First, the status returned on a declined Pay Later attempt, so that the checkout can offer ordinary BLIK in the same session instead of losing the order. Second, that your settlement does not depend on whether the shopper repays the lender. Directive (EU) 2023/2225 applies from 20 November 2026 and brings interest-free deferred payment from a third-party lender within consumer credit rules; the lender carries that, your checkout carries the declines.

An order window of 30 to 4,000 złoty, and refunds for 13 months

BLIK states a minimum purchase of 30 złoty and a limit of at most 4,000 złoty, set per shopper. PPRO documents the same range, with the maximum varying by consumer. Orders below 30 złoty cannot use the method and large baskets often exceed the individual limit, so the share BLIK Pay Later can take of your Polish turnover follows your distribution of order values.

PayPal and PPRO document full, partial and multiple refunds within 13 months of the original capture. The refund runs back through your provider, while the shopper's open balance sits with the lender. Agree with your provider how a refund after the 30-day repayment date is settled.

Which payment providers support BLIK Pay Later

In the index, Autopay, dpay (Payments Lab), Nexi and PayPal offer BLIK Pay Later. PayPal documents that sellers in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Austria cannot take it, and that buyers must be located in Poland.

The questions to put to each are the same: the rate for BLIK Pay Later next to the rate for BLIK, the status on a declined credit check, whether settlement is independent of repayment, and the refund window.
